Compost pile In the yeard.

We have it picked up by the city every two weeks. I live in FL.

My state (Delaware) recently passed a law that prohibited disposing of yard waste in our local landfill in order to prolong the life of the landfill. The public balked and the law was repealed. I still compost all my yard and kitchen waste for use in my gardens.

Our municipality collects yard waste every 2 weeks during the non-winter months - last year they tried to cut back during the summer but there was such an uproar that they re-instated it! (I guess we are different from Delaware!) Anyway, they compost it and then sell it back to residents for use in gardens, etc. They sell it cheaper than garden centres do, like $8.00 for a pick-up truck full. Next year they will be starting to collect all household organic waste separately for composting.

I put items as such in compost bags which I place at the curb weekly with my garbage which is taken away here in Michigan.

Compost as of last year. This was my first attempt and I am so pleased with the end result. I cannot wait to spread it in my garden. I am planning some work this weekend if the pile has thawed. It had not as of last weekend.

I am a firm believer in not sending ANYTHING to the landfill if it can be recycled! - Check to see if your city or county provides landfill services to residents, learn the rules, and make use of the service. Fortunately I live in central Texas, and have both city and county recycling services available. I recycle all newspapers, magazines and junk mail; cardboards; metal cans; used/surplus gasoline and motor oil; leftover paints; #1 and #2 plastics. Be a recycler and help make our world and environment a better place! Good luck!

I let the goats eat it

We have three trash containers, a blue one for recyclables like paper and plastic, a black one for food wastes and diapers and such for the landfill, and a green one for yard wastes. I have no idea what they do with the yard wastes. Los Angeles County, Calif.
