  • heh, being American, I notice that some Americans abroad adopt a posh British intonation with questions. Instead of the pitch rising to the last word of the question, it's a wavers up and down, and down at the end.. I think it sounds awful with an American accent.
  • I dislike the question-like pattern for statements when it's a regular feature of a person's speech, and unfortunately a great many people have this habit. I'll be glad when Americans quit doing it. That pattern makes what people say sound so TENTATIVE - as if they're asking permission to say what they're saying.
