Should NATO be replaced by a uniting, non-Cold War based European defence body?

I think NATO should be decimated altogether. I understand there was a need for it DURING the Cold War, but being obligated to protect countries that have the habit of angering other nations is a bad foreign policy. The last thing anyone needs is another Iraq or Vietnam situation.

NATO should be abolished completely. It is a useless and senseless organisation. Europeans countries should leave as soon as possible.

I am clearly against any European defence body because it is for sure before you start, that it never will work. The differences between the European countries with all their extreme animosities up to open hatred would make it absolutely impossible. France would never accept the British and the British and French would never accept their German enemies as a part of such a European defence body. Smaller countries like the Netherlands, Denmark or Norway would never accept a membership of Germany so that the only solution could be a mix of French and British and perhaps the Dutch and Danish and Norwegian. Even the NATO never worked in case of these extreme animosities between European countries so that I would prefer if Germany would become neutral and let the other do what they want. After my opinion it is completely impossible to create such an institution.

i am for keeping NATO. It keeps the Russians out of Central Europe. and it keeps other from messing with the weaker countries.

Anyway there have been already quite a few extreme efforts to create a European defense unit. It was foreseeable that all these attempts failed completely. The attempts were nothing but ridiculous and helpless because the European countries were not even able to find a name together. So I think meanwhile all people inn Europe know that it is defintely impossible to create such a institution. It was once a funny dream or kinky fiction that they could create a european defence institution but national egoisms are that kind of strong that I think the Europeans gave up. I think the european politicians don't have it at all on their agenda.
