If human beings don't die out, it is inevitable that we will one day visit another star sytem. For one thing, the Sun won't last for ever. Also, technology is getting better and better and cheaper and cheaper. Nowadays the public can go into space if they're rich enough, and the price will continue to fall. The technology of a spaceship that can keep its passengers alive for years is almost within our grasp, and given that, it doesn't take a fast space ship, all it would take is the discovery of suspended animation and many would jump at the chance to colonise another world when the spacecraft gets there. However long it takes.
