  • This question is subject to scientific evaluation--in other words, if it's really important enough to you, you can find out for sure, and not just have to argue about it. Socks become "quitters" because their fibers break down and weak points develop holes. So what is it that makes the fibers break down? Is it being worn, or being in the laundry, or being rolled/folded? For this experiment you will need an automatic washer and a drier with a lint filter. Wash and dry a load of dirty socks (only) and see how much lint is in the lint filter. Then wash and dry the same load again without wearing them first. Then roll them up, unroll them, and wash and dry them again without wearing them. I am confident that you will get the most lint in the first drying, very little in the second and almost none in the third. If it's just the two of you you may have to interest someone with a large family... it's hard to get a load of just socks.
  • I agree with you on this. I fold one sock into the other and my socks last for ever. If the elastic in socks goes it's because they are either old or cheaply made.
