  • It is because big business is the most important driving factor in everything. It shouldn't be, but it is. If a sponsor gets upset by rival brands being promoted by players when the rival hasn't paid for the right for that exposure, then they will take the hump and may withdraw from their sponsorship of the NFL... since this would have bad financial implications for the NFL, they levy hefty penalties on players as deterrents to prevent this happening. By comarison I doubt they care too much if a QB gets seriously injured because another QB will be along to take his place the next week, so the fine is just a token "slap on the wrist"...
