  • I think it depends of which intensity of depression: Just as any treatment, psychotherapy can be dangerous. Psychotherapy could be: - used by a bad therapist or a charlatan - not appropriate (bad diagnostic, organic origin, not succesfull with this kind of depression) - too intensive or not enough intensive - unsuccessful because the patient is not confident in the therapist or in the used method. Therapy is also a matter of what you can afford financially! So get some good advices and choose the right therapy and the right therapist. Normally, there is also a possibility to give it a try. A light depression can be very good cured through: - walking, particularly in the countryside - appropriate music - social activity - work For me, the use of antidepressive medication is often much more dangerous, particularly in uncontrolled self medication. • The only disadvantages I know of would be: 1. You get someone who is not qualified or very good, which can happen in any profession. 2. You get someone who does not realize you need medications and therefore you are not referred to an MD or psychiatrist to evaluate your level of depression and prescribe an appropriate medication for you. 3. You get someone who rips you off charge wise financially.
