  • Since it is corn based cornstarch and not wheat based (as many are) there is not a risk of gluten (if you are gluten intolerant). There is no problem with eating cornstarch.
  • Yes it is, I have been eating Argo Cornstarch, Laundry starch and baby poweder for over seven years. And my blood count is severely low. But no matter what I cant bring myself to stop eating it. I have tried so hard.
  • Argo cornstarch is just a brand name of cornstarch it is safe to eat, usually you mix it with water or milk and make a slurry to add to something. It's just the starch of corn. Unless you were allergic to corn, it is safe.
  • I too have been eating argo starch since senior year in h.s. I used to eat it and spit it out, just to feel as if I had eaten something. I am now 32 well 33 on Tuesday and I can tell you I have gained at least 40lbs in the last 7 yrs (was eating like a box a day...and I'm staring at an empty box I finished from last night.) My blood count is severely low, I'm always tired though I find ways to pick my self up. I also recently read an article about a pregnant women that got gestational diabetes I think it is? I would seay with the calorie count at over 1000 per box to keep it down to a spoonful or half and try to put it far away. I tried flowr and baby powder too but the starch actually tastes sweet in my mouth! I wish I could stop..oh well one step at a time....
  • Well, I am not alone it seems! I have been eating cornstarch for over 15 years now and I started off eating the Argo laundry starch until they stop making it crunchy. This condition is known as pica and a lot of us suffer from it. I have found like you that my iron level is extremely low and yes I have gained a lot of weight even though I mainly eat veggies. I also found that if I take iron pills I don't have the craven as much. so, I would say that an iron deficiency could be the culprit in some cases. Take care. Georgia
  • i am a lover of corn starch and i must say that it is dangerous. you can become diabetic because the starches actually turns into sugar. it also weakens your teeth and contributes to weight gain,i used to weigh 127 and now im back and forth from 155-160. my tongue hurts right now because i eat a box a day.i eat it out of a straw and have just finished a box with my mouth watering for more.(the urge is stronger when i know that im almost out of it) its hard because it seems that i can not kick the habit. ive been doing research on this and now im going to get some iron pills so that i can get myself back together. well i hope this helps and good luck.
  • Corn starch clog you up. Making you gain a great amount of weight as well as making you a anemic(can cause you to be lightheadness, dizziness, and drowsy). It dont matter what brand of starch it is. I been eating starch over year, and just now trying to stop since talking with my doctor. About the effect starch have on you.
  • I have been eating cornstrach for at least 20 years.but since argo has put it in the container i dont think it tastes the same. So i have been eating store brand but think im going to quit because nothing tatse like argo.
  • a corn starch 'wash' is better than and egg wash to make breading stick to fried foods.
  • well it will have your blood count real low and i have been eating it for 14years and i have made myself stop eating so much of it. i used to eat a box a day but i don't eat as much. i have a 14year old and she craves it so i really don't want her to eat to much of it so i want buy it as much.she also says she can smell it when she can't have it.so one thing is its addictive. and my 3year old got in it and now when she sees me eat it she wants it too.
  • NO IT'S NOT DANGEROUS, I'VE BEEN CHEWING ARGO FOR 9 YRS,I ADD TWO TABLE SPOONS OF HOT WATER STIR IT UP AND LET STAND FOR TWO DAYS WITH LID OFF. THIS MAKES IT SUPER CRUNCHY AND SOOO GOOD TO CHEW, BUT NEVER SWALLOW. I DID SWALLOW IN THE BEGINNING BUT YOU'LL GAIN WEIGHT. I USUALLY CHEW A CONTAINER OR TWO A DAY IT DEPENDS HOW MANY CONTAINERS ARE READY OR HAS HARDEN.
  • I am amazed by these answers. I never thought of cornstarch as a food- but have always used as a thickner for sauces and gravy. Do you use it as a cereal, a snack or a meal? When did you start eating it and why?
  • I have been eating Argo Corn Starch now from over 11yrs my aunt got me addicted to it. It's crazy because I feel like I'm some sort of addict. If you come to my house now I have purchased every brand that the market has to offer to see if it takes like the brand that they seem to no longer make. I found this website because after one minute ago depositing another rejected name brand that did not taste the same in my cabinet. I decided to just go online to try to order it. Well seeing this webiste and these comments is currently giving me the strength to say heck with that craving this has got to be dangerous for you if your searching every store to find it like an addict does drugs. Its making me want to start a starch anonymous club to get of starch. This seems to be really ridiculous I had no idea how many people out there were just like me with this crazy addiction. For the lady above who said her 3yr old was now wanting it. Please break that as you would do a bottle do not give it to your child. There should be no way that one food has a going crazy like this. Chocolate doesnt even seem to have this affect. I hope this helped....
  • HELLO EVERYONE,I HAVE BEEN EATING STARCH FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS NOW. THE ARGO STARCH DOESN'T TASTE THE SAME SINCE THEY SWITCHED TO THE CONTAINER.BUT WHAT I DO WITH THE CONTAINER,IS WHEN YOU OPEN IT LET IT STAY OPEN WITH NOTHING COVERING THE TOP FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS. JUST STIR THE STARCH SOMETIMES,BETWEEN THE 2 DAYS. IT WILL HAVE A LITTLE OF THAT OLD TASTE WE USE TO CRAVE. I ALSO TAKE IRON PILLS,THIS BALANCE ME OUT A LITTLE. I ONLY EAT HALF OF THE CONTAINER A DAY,SO BALANCE IT OUT.TELL ME IF THIS TASTE BETTER.....LOL.. O YEA,MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CONTAINER READY AND WAITING FOR YOUR NEXT CRAVE,I TRIED TO STOP BUT I "CAN'T"......LOL..
