I can't recall the name, but it was a bunch of plastic animals you could collect. I had 7 or 8. Then they went under or something. So my collection ended there.. I think I was devastated.

OK so I know you all will go YUK but here goes...I used to live in a place called White City,FLA. On weekends our dad would take us to the dump to scavage. It was like looking for treasure...We found lots of toys and such there. It was great fun and we always got to bring something home. Hey,we were poor and that was our Macy's..

We used to go to a restaurant in a town called Standish in Michigan on the way to my grandparents house (LONG drive). It was full of stuffed animals of all kinds and sizes (they had one table set up with human sized stuffed animals playing poker). I loved stopping there for lunch or dinner and getting to pick out a stuffed animal.

The best toy departments when I was a kid were at Bradlees and Woolworths.

Back in my day there were not toy stores but just a isle or two of toys. Mostly toys for playing outside with. We used our creative minds to make our own toys and games.

Monkey Wards in Eugene, Oregon in the 40's at Christmas time, Pennys had a few toys also at that time of year. No metal toys during WW2.
-
Locally, we got toys at the "Dime Store", which was kind of like Woolworth's. We had a place called Shopper's World too. I think my parents ordered lots of stuff from Montgomery Ward's and Sear's catalogues too.

Hobby Shack

I, like several others here, didn't have toy stores, per se. We had the BIG department stores in the city, and small departments stores in the smaller suburban cities. Ours was Stodders and it had a fairly large toy section, especially at Christmastime. It also was the only place with the REAL Santa Claus. I know, 'cause I met 'im. :-) +5

I never really shopped for toys as a kid and I don't even remember if there was a toy store locally. Santa usually provided my toys.
