You should probably check the side vent sof the unit. This is a comon problem when th eunit begins to collect dust inside th eunit causing the processor to overheat and shut itself down as a safety feature as to not destroy th eunit. You can use the brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or what I usually do is take a can of compressed air that you can by at Wal_mart or any place that sells computer related items (mouse, etc.) and just blow it out. That will get dust all over you however and if you have allergies, whew...

i had the same problem, it ended up being a frayed joystick cable. check all your cables for any exposed wires, apparently this is a gamecube safety feature, but look closely, my trouble joystick was barely noticeable
