  • Good Q. I didn't find anything here:http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/official_scorer_10.jsp dealing directly with the situation. I guess it's the official scorer's call.
  • I would call the error on the third baseman because he was ultimately responsible for the batter reaching first.
  • If the pitcher is waving the 3rd baseman off it very obviously and the 3rd baseman ignores the call, then I call it on the 3rd baseman because the pitcher did everything in his power to take the ball. If the pitcher isn't being decisive enough in the signalling then I call it on the pitcher, since he is the one who dropped it and should have stopped the 3rd baseman running into him. But it is really a judgement call, and the scorer could even call errors on both of them conceivably!
