Its not a risk with my friends, however I would prefer to find out privately.

I think I would prefer to ne alone when I heard the news, but I sincerely wish you the best of luck

If they were my friends I wouldn't worry about it. True friends won't like or dislike you because of a rejection letter. I think I would want to be with friends, because I tend to dwell on the negative of the issue and my friend would probably help, and I might just get free drinks! Especially if I got in! Good luck. I hope you get into your program!

I am very close to my friends, if the result was coming by post I would let them open it first and then break the news to me.

They'll find out either way, so what's the big deal? It's not the end of your life however the news turns out. It's just a stepping stone in one direction or another, both good, I'm sure. Go, and have a good time.
