Why don't potatoes heat up very well in the microwave?

Actually they do. Put a whole potatoes in a microwave, set the oven on 7 minutes and walk away. The potato will heat up, possibly explode from the steam. If you are cooking potatoes like a whole one, what you need to do is cook it in the microwave for a few minutes then pull it out and let it stand for a minute or so. The potato will continue to cook from the heat trapped inside. Most folk try to cook the potato completely in the microwave and end up causing it to shrivel. Also, if you poke holes in it, wrap it loosely in a paper towel it helps to keep it from exploding.

He he..... "gonna be a good day Tater." Spuds actually steam in a micro..... so I precook and finish in the oven, grill, or fryer.
