Many years ago, I had a 1100 MHz Athlon. Not Athlon XP; those came later. The old T-Bird Athlons were the equivalent of a P3.

You will likely pay MORE for antique hardware like that than for more modern things. My current box is a five-year-old hand-me-down 1.8GHz P4. It was free. If you scrounge, you may find better/faster in the dumpster. Yes, the TRASH!

AMD has been stagnated for some years now, you better off with a Intel for now, dual core 6850 a great and cheap processor and about 2.4 MHGZ. I think it runs between 150.00 and as low as 99.00

wow... shooting kinda low arent you? Pretty much, what I've been told, the 2800+ after the processor name is the same clock speed as an intel 2.8Ghz. So yeah, you won't find many AMD's below 2600+ anymore. But on newegg.com you can find a ton of AMD processors at a pretty high speed and low price. They have quite a few combo deals with AMD's too. newegg likes AMD... ALOT

Sempron, Athlon, Athlon XP all are processors that can run at that speed or higher. I currently have a Sempron 2600+ which is capable of running at 1.83, but due to motherboard issues (I ended up with a faulty one and I don't want to send it in for replacement) it only runs at 1.1. It still runs just fine. The Athlon is also a good one, and can be run at different speeds. The setting that determines what your CPU actually runs at is in your BIOS setup, which you can access after rebooting your computer. It is called the "clocking speed." Where this information is located in your BIOS depends on whether or not your motherboard uses AMI or Award BIOS. A call to your motherboard manufacturer or a visit to their website will get you the required information. With mine, it is set at 100Mhz, so it runs at 1.1Ghz, but if I could turn it up to the recommended 166Mhz it would run at 1.83Ghz. For the record - you cannot randomly select a clocking speed. Each CPU has specific, compatible speeds. Any AMD processor is good, and if you aks the salesperson to tell you what the speed is, they will tell you.
