Because people who don't understand it can't seem to realize that it's only their subjective opinion that it's a "low" form of wit.
Actually, sarcasm is the HIGHEST form of wit! Research shows that it is the last form of humor to develop in a child.
Because it's often mean-spirited and an "easy shot" at its recipient.
Actually it is puns, are the lowest form of wit.....
I thought the pun was called the lowest. And sarcasm "the protest of the weak"
Because the person being sarcastic is usually the only one who thinks it's witty.

Because it takes little or no thought to be sarcastic. Whereas one requires a modicum of intelligence to be truly witty.
