Why do old people vote Republican if they want to take away social security?

Repubicans always like to threaten to take away social security or do something to ruin it and its benefits. Republicans think that social security is the same as a ponzi scheme or welfare. Is thats the case, then why do old people overwhelming vote Republican so much more than anyone else if theyre the only ones depending on social security? It doesnt make sense.

Old people most likely vote Republican
Republicans hate social security and want to take it away
Old people are the only ones receiving social security money
Democrats care about social security and want to save it

Shouldnt old people be voting Democrat instead? Why are they so much more likely to vote Republican?

I've never heard a Republican threaten to take away social security.
I've heard democrats accuse the Republicans of wanting to do so.
Also it wasn't the Republicans that threatened to not send out social security checks this past July, it was this Democrat administration.

Unfortunately, Democrats have retreated from the fight for progressive social values and a progressive, long-term, coherant public policy which plans for the future. Republicans have made the argument that "old" social values, conservative Christianity, and short-term gain are far better than long-range planning for our country, equality for all persons, and the separation of church and state. Even though I will always be a progressive, unless a new breed of Democrat emerges who will fight and speak the truth to Republican double speak, Democrats will continue to lose the fight and put fuel on the fire for the assertion that Democrats are wimps. It is very disturbing. The ONLY chance we have is for young people to turn out in droves and drown-out the Conservative, older agenda. Look at the long-term planning of the Chinese, albeit with the help of stealing and spying, they will soon surpass us.

I haven't heard any Republicans threaten to take away Social Security. I have how ever heard Republicans talk about other options such as investing a percentage of ones pay instead of putting it in the SS fund I like this idea because it keeps the Government from spending away my retirement.
I have received my Social Security benefits letter it stated that if I was to collect SS now I would draw a total of $980 a month that sucks. If I wait until retirement age ( which at this moment is 67 and will likely go up) I will collect the grand total of $760 a month. I don't know about you but only a dumb ass would think that's a sound investment.

Under normal circumstances I would agree with your question 100% however it was obama who put up social security for the axe when the debt ceiling went into action in order to apeez the republicans into supporting other things obama wanted funded. This has caused me to seriously question the leadership and ability to govern as president for obama. He does not stand by his own actions or stay firm in anything he governs. He takes whatever side is popular or will get him what he wants. If everyone loves isreal then he will switch and support them when he didn't before. If everyone loves gay marriage and undoing don't ask don't tell then he will stand with that. If they did the opposite then he would to. I believe in the old saying "you got to stand for something or fall for anything".
