  • Not sure, but I do remember him saying that when he needed a name for the Ewoks he just took Wookie, cut it in half (wook ie) and reversed it (ie wook) and it just became Ewok.

  • I read the the name Nute Gunray came from Knute Rockney starring R. Reagun giving us the "Nute" and Gunray is reversed syllables for Reagan = gan-Rea. The was also a Nimmoidian named Lott Dodd, named for Senator Lott and Senator Dodd.
  • Most of them from life experiences. Like Mon Calamari. He named that after eating Mon Calamari at a Chinese restaurant. It pretty much comes from things he encountered in his life, and thought they would make good names.
  • He... made it up. See, before people were raised by television, they had IMAGINATIONS. Here's a tip: Turn off the shiny box and GO OUTSIDE. You might find that your Imagination has been waiting to be free for some time now.
  • Do also remember that George has a crew of designers and writers that work on these projects - just like any other movie. He does not come up with all this stuff himself - you can see that in the Episode I making of documentary where the sculpturs of the ships are done and then he tells them what to change etc. No director ever thinks up all the details on his own, he just gets most of the credit!
  • The other answers plus one other thing I think is interesting. Main hero of the first trilogy, Luke S = Lucas :)
  • As a wrighter for pleasure, I have to make up alot of things, some of them similar to this. It seems at times that I have a sort of well inside me, one that keeps spewing out ideas and names. I don't know the entirety of what's in this well, or if everything in it will eventually be spit out, but I bet that's where George gets alot of his ideas. That, or assistant writers.
