Often, as a "yuh" sort of sound. But sometimes just as "l". You need to learn the pronunciation when you learn the word. Sigh!

This is desperately simple! It is pronounced as the "y" in "toy" ONLY IF it is preceeded by the letter "i". In any other case, it is pronounced exactly as a single "l". Not more complicated.

You probably don't care about this, but in Welsh the double 'l' is pronounced chl (ch is in loch).
