  • The problem with this question is in the conceptualiztion. Once saved, always saved is not a Catholic concept. (Since this is in a Catholic forum, I will not address any other beliefs). Once you are baptized as a Catholic, you are a member of the Church, and the same rules apply to you as everyone else: If you die with mortal sin on your soul, you are in danger of being sent to hell. That's all there is to it. The Catechism teaches that it's definite if you die with mortal sin on your soul that you will go to hell. In my view, there might be some leeway, depending on the sin and your personal situation and how much you want God's mercy, but do you want to be the person to test that theory? So, I would have to say no, when you die in a state as you have described, you would not be saved.
  • I am not Catholic, I believe they can confess anything to the priest and the oriest can forive them? I am not Baptist, have been told alot of them believe "once saved always saved" , as a fact I have a close friend who believes this. I am a Christian and do not believe any of this. Once baptized and saved , you have to live right too, you can be forgiven ,when you ask and the key is to "don't do it again".
  • No, they would have to repent for each sin they commited to be saved.
  • (Disclaimer: This is what i believe and is not indicative of the beliefs of all christians) Yes. Once you are saved you have earned your place in heaven. If you sincerely accept Jesus Christ as your savoir nothing can undo your salvation. The only thing that "Might" barr you from entering heaven is if you sincerely dennounce God and decide to completely reject your salvation/ and, or leading others away from Christ purposefully.
  • The Bible never talks about 'once saved, always saved'. To the contrary, it talks about working hard to maintain your faith, to endure to the end and other similar statements. It speaks about people who had been members of congregations and how they lost their love and not a part of it or them anymore.
  • Some Christian denomination believe in "once saved, always saved" but Catholics do not. 1 John 5:16-17 - If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly. Catholics believe: Mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will. Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent. But continual venial sin can slowly but surely totally separate you from God, placing you into the state of mortal sin. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1854 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect1chpt1art8.htm#1854 With love in Christ.
  • Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. This is pretty clear to me. Why does Jesus warn that the strong who resist to the end, will be saved? What is Satan up to in a believers life if you are saved permanently. A lot of Christians (non-catholics) like to say that if they arn't saved at death and were christian...maybe they were never saved. This is a weak defense, and still doesn't explain things like believers losing faith, converting to islam and denying christ as the son of god. This is a major plus about Catholics...how they believe in the destructive power of Sin...regardless of anything you disagree with about the Catholic church...be aware of it for this reason. They are very good at keeping believers aware of this! Hope someone finds this site and is helped these posts!
  • you tell me ,, i think they promote it . http://www.evilbible.com/Murder.htm
  • As I understood it, "saved" was a very tenuous thing. Failure to follow the rules exactly resulted in eternal damnation. +5
  • Catholics aren't into the "saved" concept. They believe in Jesus, that he died for our sins, original, sin; but we still have free will to commit grievous sin, like murder, have no remorse or repentance, and join Satan in hell. . For other Christians who believe they are saved, the logic would say that a saved person would not commit such a heinous act. If so, without remorse or repentance, they are violating their own beliefs of being saved.
