  • Not really. During the month your uterus builds up a lining composed primarily of blood cells in preparation to receive a fertilized ovum. If no fertilized egg implants itself on the uterine wall, the lining is sloughed off. This is what causes menstruation. By the time your period has started, there's no way to change the amount of lining that is being sloughed. The conventional wisdom is that there's no practical way at all to stop a period mid-cycle. If the amount of lining that is built up each month is reduced, it might shorten the length of menstruation (or might just make for a lighter flow), but that would involve hormones.
