  • Sort of. Some Church leaders have encouraged dating to be held off until the age of sixteen and even then to start with group dating. However, it has never been issued as a commandment, and ultimately the age at which members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints start dating is something that is decided between the parents and the children. [added in response to fred reygan] Examples of what? Examples of ages children are allowed to date? Examples of parents telling their children at what age they can start dating? Examples of the Church restricting the starting age? As stated, the age of dating is only encourage by Church leaders; it is not dictated nor commanded. The starting age is completely relative and subjective from family to family. [added in response to Charles Sampson] That is correct. As I stated above, "some Church leaders have encouraged dating to be held off until the age of sixteen...." However, the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet is not scripture and thus is not binding. In the strictest form of the word, they are ALLOWED to date whenever they want. A teacher will not be refused the opportunity to prepare the sacrament if he dates when 15; a beehive will not be denied doing baptisms for the dead if she chooses to date at 13. I stand by my statement earlier that the sixteen years old guidelines is not a commandment, and at most is a strong encouragement.
  • The youth of the church have a booklet that is called, "For the Strength of Youth". In it, it states that the youth of the church are strongly suggested to wait until they are at least 16 to begin dating, and even then, date in groups. This is a statement sent from the church leadders: the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve. Each president that preceded ours today has given the same counsel.
  • Charles Sampson: In the "For the Strength of Youth" booklet, the "church" states, "Do not date until you are at least 16 years old." Charles, I thank you for bringing that up. Furthermore, I've been taught that the Ensign, the Liahona, and all church magazines and pamphlets are to be treated as and considered scripture for us in this age. "For the Strength of Youth" is to be treated as scripture. Thus we are commanded not to date until we are sixteen. Look at it this way. The pamplet is endorsed by the prophet and the quorem of the twelve apostles, and what does it say? Can you date before you turn 16? No.
  • the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls....hey it took me back!
  • No, just a guideline of 16 years old.
  • For the women, it's like 6-years old
