How do you equip keening without dying? Everytime I equip it, my stats get fortified, but my health goes down.

you need wraithguard wich can be found by doing the main quest when Vivec give it to you.

You can also kill Vivec and take the artifact he has to the dwarf in the Tel Fyr corprussarium. You will also need Kagrenac's journal and Kagrenac's planbook (these books can be found somewhere in the Dagoth Ur areas dwarven ruins, I dont really remember exactly which ones). The dwarf will take a few days or so to fix the artifact and then he will turn it into the wraithguard and then you can use keening and sunder without being hurt.

note : killing Vivic says it will doom the world or something like that, but once you get the wraithguard you can still use the keening and sunder to kill Dagoth Ur.
