My PS2 is 2-3 years old and makes a buzzing sound. I have been using cheat codes and was told that this will corrupt the system. Is there any way to fix this?

I dont know if this is the same thing that is happening to mine, but it does sound similar. My PS2 make a loud buzzing noise when I instert the disc, but when disc is out no noise is made. My assumption is that it has to do with the Disc tray, or something that holds the disc in place in the PS2. I contacted Playstation and they told me that all they could offer is to replace my current PS2 console with a refurbished system for $45...I still have the original PS2. This buzzing sound on mine only shows up periodically, I would say once a month, and last anywhere from 10minutes to days at a time and nothing happens when I turn the PS2 off, then on again and start it up. I just wait it out. Funny thing the game, when buzzing sound occurs, doesn't seem affected.

It's a hardware problem. What is your PS2's model number (i.e. SCPH-5xxxx or SCPH-7xxxx)?

Cheat codes could not corrupt the system. The buzzing is probably from a dirty fan or a loose screw holding something that usualy moves, like a CD drive, etc.
