if you were a minority in a certain area, for example...if you were chinese raised in a jamaican cultural area. it will be hard to try to live as a traditional chinese. if you lived there for your whole life, then you will be part of that culture. your way of life, your choice of food, of music, of dialect, your accent, your opinions mostly will reflect that of the area you are from. i see that as ok it happens. Eminem from detroit was born raised in a predemonatly black area. but then you got individuals who are not the minority but part of the majority who tries to be something else. once again...if you were chinese living in chinatown...but talked like a jamaican, ate jamaican food, listen to dancehall music, then that is called being pretentious. being something that you are not to try to fit in another society or imitating a culture to make it seem you are part of that culture when you are not. its like an american who lived in houston texas his whole life trying to talk with a british accent to sound smart when he is out clubbing....pretentious!
