The Bronze Star is awarded to anyone who served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Services on or after Dec. 7, 1941. It is awarded to soldiers who distinguished themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement or service in military operations against an armed enemy. Aerial flights do not qualify.References:
