    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On July 4, 1776, just before signing the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin uttered the words, "We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately." The new country would face a tyrannical government in England after the declaration, and each signing member would be held accountable thereafter.

    England's Threat

England's king had already threatened capital punishment upon any one of the colonists who committed treason.

    French to the North

Each delegate present at the signing of the declaration knew that the French may not come to the aid of America if the country seemed divided.

    Indians

American Indians had already experienced many atrocities at the hands of the colonists. A lack of unity among the colonists would incite rebellion from the Indians and cause them to side with the English.

    Strength in Unity

If any delegate who signed the Declaration of Independence broke away from the strength of the union, then those individuals risked being killed by the British.

    Colonists

Loss of confidence among the colonists for the representatives could break the spirit of the revolution and cause defeat at the hands of the British.
