  • I was a heavy drinker for years and years, but it was easy for me to quit, because I started feeling like sh*t everyday. It just wasn't worth it to me anymore. I quit cold, just like that. And have felt normal ever since, 6 years.
  • it actully depend on the seriousness. like drinking it evry day. some times cold turkey is not the saferst idea. when u r experienceing cold turkey some symptoms might be inducing vommiting, being irratated vby not so serious thing. if ajny of these symptoms occur plz contact ur local doctor.(i was in special forces medic dude!)
  • It took me some time to quit but I did. For me it took willpower and alot of praying. My enviroment and surrounding didnt help at times so I had to put my friends and family on th back burner so i could get me straight first. After about 2 weeks, the craving was gone because i adjusted my surroundings and activities that caused me to drink in the first place.
  • If you have been drinking a large amount. than I would check with a doctor if you need to be watched for possible witdrawl problems. As far as how to quit there is a program call AA but I don't believe that is the only way to quit nor do I believe that it is a good fit for everyone. It does help alot of people but some people have other needs that AA doesn't meet. There are therapists that help people with addiction. If you go to one make sure they are licensed where you live. If you live in the U.S. you can try contacting 211 First Call for Help. The following is a link to a google page where you can check for the number in your city. Good luck and God bless. http://www.google.com/search?q=211+First+Call+for+Help&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
  • Non-alcoholic beers are pretty good these days. When I was first pregnant, I found myself really fancying a beer after work, so I bought alcohol free ones and have got quite used to them. It also helps in a pub or bar as you don't feel so out of place. They contain about 0.02% alcohol but I was talking to my doctor about it and she said you'd have to drink about a thousand of them to get drunk and would drown before you got to that stage.
  • I have a son in recovery. If you drink alot and depend on it, it is best you check into Detox for a few days. Withdrawal from alcohol can be horrible, and all they do is watch you and maybe give you comfort drugs, and lots of AA meetings. The thing about AA is they are all in the same boat, and they help and support you. If you do it alone, the relapse rate is high. Also they teach you to take ONE day at a time. Good Luck
  • I prayed and then thank goodness I am over a year sober - I attended no groups - It's just some need that and I may one day - I wake up thanking God everyday - Now thats how it worked for me - Get help anyway you can when you feel your ready
  • Here is some info on withdrawls from Web Md. Remember that DT's only happen to people who have severly abused alcohol. Since you have not mention how much you drink or for how long I have given you all of the info. Pls. don't let it frighten you. And like I said before if you are at all unsure I would suggest contacting a doctor if possible. Also I am giving you the website for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) so you can decide for yourself if it is what you need. http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/?Media=PlayFlash WebMD Withdrawal from alcohol or drugs Withdrawal is an uncomfortable physical or mental change that happens when the body is deprived of alcohol or drugs that it is accustomed to getting. The symptoms can last a few days and may include nausea or vomiting, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety. Withdrawal symptoms only occur if a person has regular, heavy use of a drug or alcohol. Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal begin from 4 to 12 hours after a person cuts down on or stops drinking or as long as several days after the last drink. As the disease of alcohol dependence progresses, severe symptoms of withdrawal (called delirium tremens, or DTs) can occur. Symptoms of delirium tremens may include seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), confusion and irritability, severe trembling, and seizures. In rare cases, delirium tremens can lead to death if it is not treated. Symptoms of withdrawal from drugs (illegal drugs or prescription medicines) vary depending on the drug. Common withdrawal symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and seizures. Treatment for withdrawal from alcohol or drugs may require medicine and supportive care. Rehabilitation for alcoholism or drug use is often recommended. Author Kerry V. Cooke Author Amy Fackler, MA Editor Kathleen M. • If you are a heavy drinker there a detox places you can go to for 3 days or more. They give you medication to help your symptoms, that is the best way to go. My daughter quite a week ago cold turkey but is sober now and doing much better. She is on the verge of loosing everything because of drinking and has 5 months to get it together. She made the decision and is staying busy straightening out the mess she made of her finances. You can do it, it's just a matter of realizing how much better your life will be and not backing down. Good luck to you.
