  • Considering that the continents were named after the mapmaker and the US was originally the United States, they shouldn't be offended.
  • Pretty much everybody in the world understands the word American, in general conversation, to mean from the United States of America. It isn't really anybody's fault that the founders of the USA chose a name for their country that doesn't lend itself to describe its inhabitants. Mexican is a perfectly adequate word, but United Statesian? I don't think so.
  • I don't believe either group finds it offensive to be called Latin-American or Anglo-American. I personally don't look at Anglos as being the only Americans, just one of many other groups.
