When I save a file in Word it saves as a temp file. How can I get it to save as a regular file?

    It seems strange that it should save as a temp file because this isn't an option. Word saves temporary files all the time as backups in case of system failure, this is why you sometimes get something like Document 1 (Recovered) when you start Word. Go to the Tools...Options menu and look on the 'Save' tab for the option to Save Word Files as... Make sure that MS Word (your version) is selected. Next click on the File Locations tab and ensure that documents are saved to the folder you want. If necessary select the Documents line and click on the Modify button.

    Instead of selecting "save", try slecting "save as", more options will be available, such as the format for the saved file, the file name and location.
