A LightScribe DVD cover is a cover printed on the face of a DVD that is burned using LightScribe-compatible DVD media. LightScribe uses special DVDs that allow labels to be burned using the same laser that burns data to a disc. LightScribe-compatible DVD drives include label-making software that allows users to make custom monochrome labels that are printed directly on the face of a disc. LightScribe DVD covers remove the smudges that can occur when a DVD is labeled using a permanent marker. They also give a professional look to discs, allowing home movies to have professional-looking labels. LightScribe DVDs feature a special chemical treatment on the face of the disc. Unlike regular DVDs, which have lines for handwriting a name on them, LightScribe discs are treated so that the laser of the DVD burner can imprint an image. Once data is burned to a DVD, it is only a matter of flipping it over and starting the LightScribe burning process. The LightScribe labeling process adds only a few seconds to the total time needed to burn a DVD. Unlike a DVD cover that attaches using an adhesive label, a LightScribe DVD cover is permanently imprinted on the disc and does not increase the disc's thickness. This makes the DVD usable in all DVD players.Features
