The normal, natural inclination is self-preservation not self-murder. It is unfortunate if you desire to terminate your own life. I hope that you will re-think it and talk through your issues with a wiser, stable, more mature, trusted friend.
Because in a way you are. Suicidal thoughts are not sane thoughts. You are only thinking about the pain you feel at the moment and not about the people that love you. I know this from personal experience. I was suicidal at more than one point in my life. Fortunately I got help and am so very glad that I did not let that pain (it was horrible at the time) in my head and heart win out. My life has been so blessed because I got that help.
for the same reason as they look at you as crazy when you dye your hair green, or become vegetarian, or vote for Bush - they just do not understand.
But, where all the examples I have given are temporary, killing yourself is permanent - they will lose you from their lives for ever. And they see that you will not have the opportunity to have so many happy experiences later in life. Or maybe, because they have experiened those thoughts themselves, and remember what a desperate situation it was, and do not want you to go through that.
There are some things that people do not want to consider because they feel threatened by the possibilities. For example: Most devout religious people will not seriously consider the possibility of godlessness, because they have too much of an emotional investment in religion. Most atheists do not seriously consider the possibility of a god's existence because they have too much of an emotional investment in atheism.
Getting back to my point, most people have a very large emotional investment in the belief that life is a valuable thing and should be preserved at all costs. When they hear about someone who is considering ending their own life their faith in the value of life is shaken. Then, in order to preserve that faith they label you as crazy. This means that nothing you think is meaningful. This is a similar defense mechanism as a religious person or group calling someone a heretic.
Why would you care how others looked at you? Unless you are not receiving enough love in your home environment, and would even bother to care to look. When you start caring of others reactions, it shows, odd reactions are occuring on the home front, that you are trying to interpret to find some sort of safety. In short, a suicidal person is an abused person. Continual neglect, put downs, other abuses. Usually surrounded by selfish people, where you may or may not have antagonised their behaviours by your wrong-doing. No lawyer, no professionally educated, will look at you funny, except that you are a victim. This is only realisation. This wont get you out of the situation.
Because you are. -- By definition though, i'm not just being an ass. To defy the self-preservation instinct is crazy itself.
Because if you want to kill yourself you are crazy.
they dont know whats going on your mind so they just go the easiest way; judgment
Because, most people would do anything to avoid death, and seeking it out is strange and unnatural for them.
But, having suicidal feelings does not make you crazy. Not at all. However, it's better to not act on the feelings, so please don't kill yourself.
They look at you that way because a mentally healthy person doesn't want to end their own life. That being said, no problem lacks a solution.
Why do so many people come to Answerbag with suicidal thoughts? Get in line. I think what you're seeing is people rolling their eyes at yet another person trying to get attention.
no pun intended , but suicide does have mental issues attached ....:) crazy is the wrong word ,maybe lunatic...maybe they look as if you are not sane when you say such...
Seriously, if you tell someone you want to end your life, they are going to look at you as though you were crazy. After all, it's not something someone just says in polite conversation.
a) Because they do not want to kill themselves and they have difficulty understanding why anyone would want that.
b) It is not because you want to kill yourself. It is because you talk so much about wanting to kill yourself.
They look at you that way because a mentally healthy person doesn't want to end their own life. That being said, there's no problem that can't be fixed.

If you think suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, then what do you say when somebody has a permanent problem?

Is suicide nature's way of showing mercy? Knowing that if things get truly unbearable that you can just end the pain in an instant?
