I have a small leak under a bathroom, from a bsmt wall even after turning off the water for 3 weeks. Is there something I can check myself?

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, techobo. (What's this?)

Put on a dust mask and gloves and open up the basement wall ceiling (after checking out the supply lines underneath the sink). It may be a bad solder joint or other connection or a damaged or corroded pipe. It doesn't have to be a big, obvious leak to do lots of damage...a simple, slow drip is enough to do a huge amount of damage over time. Once you find it, you can decide whether to fix it yourself or call a plumber. If you do call in a pro, it will be much cheaper for you having opened the area and found the problem first.
