Help! Kitten won't eat and it's been over 24 hrs!

I just captured a medium sized black kitten. He looks healthy, is a little chubby. I put steak, tuna, dry cat food, milk, water, roast beef, and chicken nuggets in a couple of bowls, and won't eat ANYTHING. It's been over 24 hours, and wont eat. I thought maybe in the morning she might eat, but she just turns her head away from it. My parents won't take her to a vet, because it's too much right now. PLEASE suggest what I should do. Looks maybe 3 mths, maybe more.

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, tinykittensss. (What's this?)

You can buy some inexpensive wormer and that should help some if it is worms. The inexpensive stuff isn't really great but better than nothing if you can't go to the vet. Try putting a little dry food down, maybe even putting a little water on it. Don't keep putting lots of other stuff down. The kitten doesn't need lots of choices. Dry or canned food is all it really needs.

    A very good question.

You "captured" the kitten...which says he was living on his own before.

This could mean he's just not used to taking food in a domesticated sense...he's not at ease about it.

It could also mean he has worms or is otherwise ill.

How does the kitten behave around you? Is he shy or nervous? Does he come up to you and cuddle? His behavior can tell a lot.

But the bottom line is you should take him to the vet and have him checked out...you captured him, so he's probably never had any shots and he may not be in the best of health. A trip to the vet will take care of that and help put your mind at ease.

It sounds like she might have worms, but if you can't take her to the vet,thn therre isn't much that you can do.Over the counterr worm medication won't treat the worms, they only prevent them.Have you tried looking for another home for her/him?

My kitty has lymphoma. After chemo treatments and he does not feel like eating we give a pill called periactin. (prescription) It is an appitite stimulant. If can't get that you can syringe feed till your cat eats on it's own. Google or ask vet how to syringe feed properly. Use a good food like Hills AD.

Stress from the ordeal of being abandoned/ captured/ new surroundings could contribute to his loss of appetite.

Maybe he is not use to eating these foods? it very unwise to feed kittens anything other than kitten food..however if he is not drinking or eating you need to seek advice from a vet..give them a call and explain your situation..
