<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Energy Saver
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, heat pumps are efficient in transferring heat inside and outside of a house. In electric heating systems, they help reduce energy output by 30 percent to 40 percent. Heat pumps are also better at dehumidifying than central air conditioners.
On the Other: Winter Issues
Heat pumps are less efficient in the winter. According to Green Energy News, they are less effective in heating a home when the temperature drops below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, frost and ice on the coils can prevent the transfer of heat to inside a home.
Bottom Line
Heat pumps can be efficient during all seasons. In order to be more efficient during winter, they are usually supplied with sensors that send heat from inside the house to defrost the unit.
