  • The Kindle is a device that displays books in electronic form. The Kindle is produced and sold by amazon and is meant to take the place of standard paper books.

    Size

The Kindle is small, just 7.5 inches long, 5.3 inches wide and .7 inches thick. It weighs slightly more than 10 ounces and has a 6-inch reading screen.

    Navigating

There is a keyboard under the reading screen and a scrolling wheel on the right side. Two buttons, one on each side of the screen, help the reader scroll forward and back through the text.

    Storage

The Kindle has 256 megabytes of memory built in and can hold about 60 books. You can also insert a memory card as big as 4 gigabytes that will hold hundreds of books.

    Availability

There are about 100,000 books available for to be downloaded into the Kindle as of early 2010, and many major newspapers and magazines are available, as well.

    Price

The Kindle originally sold for about $350 but the price dropped to almost $250 by early 2010. Books were available for $9.99 each in 2010, again only on Amazon.

    Competition

The Kindle was the first e-book reader, but by 2010 it had competition from the Sony E-Book Reader and other companies were developing readers.
