Green tea has long been used in ancient societies to treat a variety of health problems. Now it is more clear than ever that green tea is beneficial to the body and can protect against various diseases. Drinking green tea regularly will greatly benefit your health.
Metabolism
When three to four cups of green tea are consumed in a day, it can lead to lower sugar levels in your body, burn fat and lower starch absorption. It is the equivalent of burning about 60 calories from jogging for six minutes.
Cholesterol
Green tea lowers cholesterol and raises HDL, considered "healthy" cholesterol. It is possible that polyphenols in green tea cause cholesterol to be eliminated by the body.
Cancer
According to clinical studies, regular consumption of green tea can help protect against cancer of the bladder, breast, ovaries, colon/rectum, lung, pancreas, prostate and skin. Green tea is an anti-inflammatory and its polyphenols fight off cancerous cells.
Liver Disease
Drinking green tea helps protect the liver from toxins and damage, as can result from alcohol consumption. Catechin, one of the polyphenols in green tea, may also help treat hepatitis; however, further research needs to be done.
Other Benefits
Green tea may help prevent tooth decay. Since it is anti-inflammatory, it can also help those who suffer from arthritis. It also prevents cold symptoms and help diabetics lower their sugar levels.
Bear in Mind
Green tea on its own is not enough to promote good health in your body. Rather, it should be used to complement your already healthy lifestyle that embraces good nutrition and regular exercise.
