  • In general popups are a marketing tool used by millions of advertisers. Unfortunately there are also popups used to phish for your personal information. In making the decision to block a popup, you have to be careful. In some circumstances, such as, attending online college classes, you cannot block all popups. Doing so may prevent you from taking quizzes or exams. With Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox you have the option to block or allow.

    Internet Explorer

Select Internet Explorer found on your Start Menu and allow it to completely load on your screen. Select "Pop up Blocker" found under the Tools Menu. To allow all pop ups simply select "Turn Off Pop up Blocker." To allow pop ups from specific websites select "Pop up Blocker Settings" on the Pop up Blocker dialog box. Enter the URL of the website you want to allow to open pop ups in the text box shown next to "Address of website to allow." Select "Add." Add any other websites to allow exactly the same way.

    Mozilla Firefox

Select "Mozilla Firefox" found on your Start Menu and allow it to completely load on your screen. Select "Options" on the Tools Menu. Click on the Contents Tab. To allow all pop ups remove the check next to "Block pop up windows." To allow pop ups only on specific websites select "Exceptions." Enter the URL for the websites for which you want to allow pop ups. Select "Allow." Add all other websites to be allowed just as you did this one.
