People often believe that the American flag patch worn by baseball players during the USA World Baseball Classic looks backwards. In fact, it has proper orientation. Under Department of Defense code, the American flag patch is to be orientated so the blue stars face toward the individual. In the USA World Baseball Classic, patches are traditionally worn on the right shoulder, hence the flag having a different orientation than people are accustomed to (and not "backwards" as some people assume). According to USA Baseball, when worn in this manner, the American flag appears to "wave" in the wind as the ballplayer runs around the bases. According to USA Baseball, the official name for the "backwards" American flag patch is actually a "reverse side American flag patch." The reverse side American flag patch does not only appear during the USA World Baseball Classic, but also on the president's plane, Air Force One. To prove this orientation is not only correct, but legally required, see the Army Regulation for Insignia's and Uniforms 670-1.Misconceptions
