Towel bars are used to hang towels so they dry properly when not in use. Towel bars are typically found in the bathroom, but theoretically could be installed in any room. Take care to avoid placing the towel bar on a drywall seam, as the seam may not be strong enough to support the bar. Also, wet towels can be heavy. Ideally, you should bolt the towel rack to vertical studs where possible so the rack does not fall off the wall.
On the Other: Other Considerations
A towel bar should be near the sink, shower or tub where it will be used. Doing so will help to avoid dripping water on the floor while reaching for the towel. However, the towel bar should not be placed where the towel will block a vent or electrical outlet. A wet towel can be a safety hazard if it comes into contact with electricity.
Bottom Line
Towel bar placement can be subjective, but it works best to locate it within reach of the source of water where the towel will be used, securely fastening it to the wall without blocking any other fixtures.
