<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Rosemary is Used to Treat Alopecia
Rosemary oil can be used to counter hair loss, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. One study found that people with alopecia who massaged their heads daily for seven months with essential oils, including rosemary, experienced more hair re-growth than those who did not use the essential oils.
On the Other: Results are Inconclusive
The study was not designed to conclude that the hair growth was directly linked to the use of rosemary, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Rosemary was one of four oils used in the study, along with lavender, thyme and cedarwood.
Bottom Line
Rosemary has many reported medicinal benefits, from relief of muscle and joint pain to encouraging hair growth. People have valued the plant for its health benefits for thousands of years. Rosemary has shown promise in combating hair loss, but the results have not been scientifically verified.
