They take just as long as guys... well, guys who aren't "baggy pants and t-shirt" kinda guys...

They just want to make sure that they feel pretty and confortable. Girls love guy's attention so they want to look perfect. They love when they get "You look beautiful tonight", etc. It's nature I guess.

its not the actual getting dressed, its the deciding what to wear that takes so long.

Because they care about the way they look. A lot of girls care about the way they look and they want to look "picture perfect" I don't take long to dress at all.

It is because they are trying to impress you. Think about it, if there was this hot girl that you really wanted, would you dress like a slob and be seen as unfit or dress your best and hopefully get the girl. Girls do the same thing. They get their hair done, get a new dress, just to get your approval. Also, they want you to be proud of them when other people look at you two together. Final one, is for you to be sexually attractive to her. Another reason is they love attention, and will do anything to get their desired attention.

A lot of us like to dress to impress. It doesn't have to be to impress others, but for our own self-esteem. We like to look good because it makes us feel good. If we look like trash, well, our self-esteem level is going to fall. Naturally, the better we look, the more self-confidence we have. I know that's how or why I sometimes take a while. Sometimes it's to hide what I really feel, or just to be 'real'. Kind of difficult to explain.

Well I'm a girl, and I can truly say, if I had the time, I would take two hours to get ready. AT LEAST. ALL the time. Maybe even more. If I could take my time with it, then it'd take a looooooong time. All the stuff that women go through to look good takes a lot. If I had unlimited time, there'd be bathing, waxing/shaving, lotioning, picking out clothes, getting myself into those clothes, doing nails, fixing make up if i want to wear it that day, and of course, HAIR. Good GOD. Hair by itself can take hours. If you find a woman that can make herself look GORGEOUS in under an hour, than that girl has MAD skills. That woman is pro and should be applauded. As to WHY we do it...well, no one likes to leave the house feeling like they look ugly. If I do myself up the best I can, then no matter how good looking another woman is, I feel like she doesn't have shit on me. If I'm hot that day, then I hot and that's it. No comparison will make me feel less than that. So that's basically why I bother to take the time, when I can.

This is the real reason why women take so long to get ready. We have little 'helpers'. :)

to feel good! I take forever b/c if I choose an oufit on monday and then tuesday i feel too fat for the outfit then i have to change outfit and it takes ages. Water retention sux!

I always have to get dressed and undressed and changed about 3 times trying to decide what to wear. Guaranteed though that I'll ALWAYS end up wearing what I first put on originally, I would save myself alot of time if I could just realise this in the first place. (this is also the reason why my bedroom floor is always littered with clothes.)

Not all of us take so much time. I can get dressed pretty quickly. I've surprised my father and grandfather on more than one occasion. My grandmother takes to much time to get dressed. But even when I'm getting really dressed up, it will take my 5 minutes or less. I'm pretty sure that I'm also quicker, getting dressed, than many men. But I am atypical. I act less girly than most women. I don't like to talk much. But I'm also more willing to wear girly outfits. It might be my way of showing off.

Sorry, wrong gender in my marriage. I am up, dressed showered and out the door in 15 to 20 minutes. My husband on the other hand is late for everything because it takes him so long to get ready. What the hell can you do that takes 45 minutes standing in front of a mirror. Changes his shirt three times. Drives me nuts.

it's a common misconception that woman dress to impress their b/f. they dress to impress each other! men are simple creachers if they were trying to impress us they would dress like this:

I can actually dress in 30 seconds! (I'm serious!) But in the morning to get ready (bathroom, hair, bed, etc.) I can probably do it in 5 minutes. I think it's more of a stereotype than anything else. Girls care more about how they look and what they wear. Compared to guys, they want to look a lot more presentable and "nicer" in general.

There can be absolutely no room for error...otherwise this would be the reason for any negative attention we might receive...or for the absence of any positive.

I loved reading those responses. I am 26. I used to take tons of time getting ready. Now I am much quicker, and I think I look better because I don't think about it so much. I am more confident now, despite my disability, and have much less trouble deciding what I want to look like.

because of all the little details. makeup, color coordination, nails, hair, perfume, how tight or loose the clothes fit...theres a lot to consider! but it doesn't take me as long b/c i'll usually pick my outfits out the day b4. i hate being late.

Psh. I take 30 minutes to get up, wash up, get dressed and eat breakfast, every day for class. (when I had class) I know guys who take way longer than that.
