  • The celebration of the Eucharist in the Catholic church is about true community. The theory behind the ban on Communion for non-Catholics lies in the fact that if you are not a member of the Church, you are not truly a part of that community. If you believe the same things, then you should formalize your beliefs and become part of the Church. It is based in the the biblical teaching that "no man should receive Me unworthily" (in one of the Gospels, I think Matthew), meaing not being in true communion with the body of Christ.   • A person must believe completely in transubstantiation (the fact that the bread actually becomes the body, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ). A person must take classes to fully understand this concept and must truly believe in it. For children, they do this when they prepare for their first communion. For adults, they attend RCIA classes to prepare for their first communion immediately following their baptism.
  • The preist is not accually carding at the alter, there really is nothing to stop someone from accepting communion.
