The red, white, and yellow cables are RCA (composite) cables representing audio-right, audio-left, and video, respectively. Generally the connectors are color-coded on both the source (DVD player) and the destination (TV), and it is important to match everything up correctly.
Where possible Scart leads are better, not sure about HMDI cables. The one you seem to be describing if memory serves sounds like an S-Video lead. All you need to do with this lead is plug one end Yellow into Yellow whole etc with all the leads (3 I think) into your player then Yellow into Yellow on into your TV, or if the other end has a Scart attachment on it, then put that into the Scart space in your TV.
Plugging in DVD/plug in awkward place/caused sparks back of DVD/now not working. Not plug fuse. Is it a write-off now? Thank you.

Philips HTS3565D-37 will not play certain DVD's. I have upgraded the software, the discs are coded for the correct region. Any ideas why?

I connected my Magnavox vcr/dvd combo up to my tv and when I put a tape or dvd in there is no picture. What could be wrong?

Ihave a sonydvd with no sound.It worked with the surroundsound but now not direct to the tv.Is there a setting to send the sound to the tv?

You're reading my dvd player sends sound but no picture.....should the red,white yellow leads be all plugged in to the same exit?
