Mostly everybody has been afflicted with dark rings under the eyes. This symptom carries many names including tired eyes, raccoon eyes, dark eyes and dark circles.
Lifestyle
Not getting enough sleep can induce shadowy pigmentation under your eyes. Stress on the job, or pulling an all-nighter at the graveyard shift also induces these symptoms. If you tire yourself out with a night of heavy drinking and partying, that will most assuredly cause dark eyes.
Allergies
According to Natural Eye Care, "persistent rubbing of the eyes due to allergies can certainly cause darkening around the eyes." Identify the source of your allergy if this is the case.
Genetic
According to Dr. Seckel, a plastic surgeon from Concord, Massachusetts, people inherit a shallow indention beneath the eye, which further amplifies the dark tint under the lower eyelid. This inherited trait is called Arcus Marginalis Deformity.
Sensitivity
The eyes are a sensitive part of the face, so the causes point to a lot of internal and external factors. Just a slight change in diet, lifestyle and sleep pattern can alter pigmentation under the eye.
Other
Tanning under the sun increases melanin, which could cause dark pigmentation under the eye. Aging induces the thinning of the skin, and amplifies the red blood vessels in your eyes.
