  • The ability to tie multiple screens, including projectors, into a single computer's output stream is an extremely useful feature that has many applications. It can be confusing trying to switch between a projector screen and a computer screen. With a little computer knowledge and friendly guidance, however, you can accomplish this task fairly easily.

Switching From Projector to Computer Screen

The first and most multisystem-compatible way to switch between a projector and computer screen would be to open your control panel (while in projector mode), navigate to the monitor tab, and select the computer's monitor, usually denoted as "1." Click "Switch to" (or its equivalent); your computer should automatically switch to the computer's monitor. After it has done so, unplug the projector's video cable from your computer.

    Function Keys

If your computer has a "Function" key (usually signified by the letters "FN" in a square box, or something similar), chances are that one of the number keys at the top of the computer controls which monitor configuration your computer is currently using. This key generally has a picture of a screen on it, with lines on either side. By pressing the "Function" key and this key at the same time, your computer will switch monitor configurations to the next viable setting, which should be the computer's monitor. Once it has switched fully, unplug the projector's video cable from your computer.

    The Projector

Sometimes the projector itself offers a solution to the switching problem. If when you first attached the printer you pressed a button on the projector itself to switch from computer to projector, then you should be able to press the same button (or a "Back" button, if applicable) to return to computer mode. These buttons are usually found on the projector itself, and their meanings can be found in either the projector's manual or on the manufacturer's website.
