Probably not because filling stations are organised in the monopolistic competition. Colussion is possible in the cases of monopoly or oligoply. However in some places that lack enough gas outlets higher prices can be put in effect.Besides petrol companies are subject to price schedules provided by OPEP which controls most of the oil supply.

Let's just say when the prices are going up the oil executives aren't jumping off any high ledges. Oil is a very DEEP complicated game. Refineries, weather, demand, markets, governments, geo-political turmoil etc.... all take their toll. So, I don't think its all in there hands but if it was we'd be paying triple.

Everybody usually goes away on a public holiday, so Easter is like Christmas being early for the petrol companies. Easter has the longest public holiday weekend out of the rest of the year.
