Ummm... no its Matthews Arena in Boston Massachusetts built in 1910. Look it up on google, wikipedia, or any other search engine or info site and you won't find an older date for an indoor ice sheet let alone an arena. The Bruins and Whalers (now Hurricanes) first played here, as well as the Boston Celtics (NBA). The 1st Beanpot tournament was held here and Northeastern University's Hockey and Basketball programs still call it home.

Sorry folks, i hate to bust your bubble but Matthews arena is NOT the oldest hockey arena still in use in the world. That honor belongs to the Calumet colliseum in Calumet Michigan built in 1913. Matthews arena would be the oldest if it wasnt burnt and rebuilt, TWICE! Once in 1918 and again in 1948. If the criteria for claiming Matthews is the oldest is due to the fact it was rebuilt on the same spot as the original, it is STILL not the oldest! the honor would then fall to the amphidrome (renamed Dee stadium in 1947) in Houghton Michigan, (also the birthplace of professional hockey) built in 1902 was burnt and immediatley rebuilt in 1927, and because it burnt and was rebuilt Dee stadium (amphidrome) is the 7th oldest. Either way Matthews arena is not the oldest, any claim to that went up in smoke in 1918. The colliseum was never burnt or rebuilt and is still the complete original building, not just some parts reused after they survived a fire.

sorry im not very computer literate, i dont even have one, i go online on my cell phone. but you can try www.cchockyhistory.org its got some cool facts about the origins of proffesional hockey, i only know about the colliseum cause i live less than a mile from it here in calumet and the dee in houghton cause its only 15 miles away. glad to share some of our local history, if you have any interest in other sports, on one side of calumet is a town called called laurium and is the hometown of a notre dame sports legend named george gipp also known as the gipper. :)
