  • no, school is for school. mobile/cell phones are just a distraction.
  • Nope. I didn't have a cell phone at school and did just fine.
  • I wouldn't give an elementary student a phone period; but definitely not at school.
  • There is no reason an elementary school student would need a cell phone, period. Let alone at school.
  • No, elementary school students are way too young to have cell phones. Should an emergency ever happen, they are under constant supervision of an adult (most of which have cell phones, themselves), which is not always the case for high school and middle school students.
  • Yes kids should hav cell phones at scool incase you are watking home from school and a emergency happens!!!
  • Heck no. In factI feel cell phones should be disallowed in all school rooms. Classes should not be interrupted by cell phones.
  • Absolutely not. There is no reason anyone who can't pay for it on their own should feel "entitled" to have a cell phone. Especially in grammar school, where it is little more than a status symbol like having the "right" pair of sneakers or the newest Trapper Keeper (sorry, I'm old). Little kids survived for hundreds of years in school without cell phones. There are going to be a certain amount of safety concerns for children no matter what, but if kids are well-educated and taught how to be smart and safe, cell phones are unnecessary. When I was in middle school, hats and gum were both forbidden in school. There's no reason schools can't make the same sort of rules for cell phones, iPods, and similar distractions. I get pissed when I see an education going to waste because of consumerism and socially-driven materialism. My tax money is paying for the education of the children in my city, and they'd better use it wisely. Signed, Grumpy Old Man
  • No, they do not need them. If for some reason they need it after school (they walk, they're going to a friend's house, to call mom to pick them up from soccer practice...) then it should have to be turned off and in the backpack/book bag all day and not out.
  • No, not even for emergencies. They are too young to actually DO anything in an emergency and notifying the school is a much better way to tell a child of an emergency as just telling the child isn't good enough. The child couldn't just leave the school without the school being told, so just call the school and be done with it.
  • No students should have cell phones at school!
  • I think it is alright as long as they just have the 'firefly' phones or whatever. Where they can only call their mom, dad, and 911. And whatever else the parents feel like programming in there. ~+~
  • I don't see a problem with having it, but I don't see a need for it either. And if they do have it, they should not be allowed to use it at school/during school hours.
  • yes!!! what if they are being bullied or something and the bullies threaten you to do something to something or someone and you don't know what to do? the bullies could've threatened you to do something to you if you don't do it so you would probably need one.
  • Only if it remains in their backpack and off while school is in session, and its only used for emergencies. I really don't think kids should have cell phones, though, to be honest. I was 15 before I got my first phone, and that was only because I had gotten a job and was going to be driving soon...
  • Only if they are switched off during classes. Otherwise, they cause too much of a distraction when the kids should be learning.
  • elementary kids shouldn't even have them! here's why: they don't need them. not at that age! shoooot! i didn't have mine until i was in high school. it wasn't necessary until then. of course it's a way for parents to keep in touch with their children but the parents shouldn't have texting for the young elementary kids because it's a distraction. to class. to everything. . .
