A friendship ring is a reminder of the deep relationship that the two parties share. It symbolizes a bond so strong that the two people consider each other as close as siblings.

Friendship rings often have a simple design, to distinguish themfrom engagement and wedding rings. Some people wear them on their pinkie fingers to further avoid confusion.
A person of any age can give or receive a friendship ring, but the practice is mostly done by young people. It would not be necessary for a young child to have the word "friend" engraved on the ring, because that type of relationship is assumed.
