It's essential to give your pond fish nutritional food to increase their longevity. They are good at finding food for themselves, but you can assist them with commercial brands to ensure the fish thrive in a diet rich with variety.
Freeze-Dried Blood Worms
Freeze-dried blood worms are actually mosquito larvae. According to Petco.com, this type of food provides energy and conditioning for your fish.
Wheatgerm Sticks
Wheatgerm is easily digested by pond fish. Sold in pet stores, the sticks are enhanced with algae and vitamins for good nutrition.
Insects
If your pond is outside, insects will touch down upon the water and your fish will swoop in and eat any intruders. Insects are a good source of protein.
Greenery
If you provided your pond fish with a plant environment, they will take advantage of that greenery and start to nibble on the roots or the plants themselves. Of course, only the herbivore fish will partake.
Algae
Sold in wafer form, these are great for bottom feeder fish who depend on the food dropped in the tank that gets past the fish swarming at the top.
